Dear Neighbor:
As your alderman, I look forward to continuing to serve you as we begin the New Year of 2007.
While I am new in this position, I am not new to the 8th Ward community. I have spent most of my professional career working in the 8th Ward, committed to keeping our ward a clean and desirable place to live.
The 8th Ward continues to thrive with economic development. Currently, we have several projects in the development phase. On 87th and Stony Island, we will soon welcome Nancy’s Pizzeria and Al’s Italian Beef, the Bronzeville Children’s Museum is being constructed at 93rd and Stony Island and WVON’s new studios will be in operation at 87th and Dobson in the very near future.
I am anticipating the ground breaking of a new 200 unit housing development for our senior citizens that will be located at 78th & Woodlawn. My vision for the ward also includes the redevelopment of our industrial corridor between 79th and 83rd on South Chicago Avenue. I will keep you informed as new projects develop.
Currently, I am working with all the Police Commanders in the 8th Ward to ensure that our community stays safe and viable. As an additional service to the community, there will be free legal counseling available at my office once a month.
Rest assured, that as your alderman, I am committed to working hard for the residents of the 8th Ward. My goal is to continue to move forward. I see economic growth, good schools, safe streets, a clean ward, and strong community values.
My office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. I welcome your comments, suggestions, and ideas. Working together, we can continue to make the 8th Ward a great place to live, work, play, and to raise a family.
Sincerely,
Michelle A. Harris
Alderman, 8th Ward
